10 Reasons You'll Love a Spring Session
Spring is the Friday night of seasons. It’s great in and of itself, but it’s extra special because you made it through winter (congratulations!). And soul-fulfilling things are just around the corner. As a family photographer, I love capturing families and their candid, impromptu moments outdoors. So here are 10 reasons why spring is just perfect for a family photo session.
1. Ice Cream
Going out for ice cream brings joy. My daughter and I cheered the first time we saw our local shop open. It’s a sure way to make your kids happy and create vibrant, simple and fun family photographs, and memories.
2. Magical Firsts
There’s nothing like the long-awaited firsts of the year: first time wearing shorts, first time sleeping with the window open, first time eating on a patio. The excitement is palpable and it shows on your kids’ faces.
3. New babies mirroring new buds.
Babies waking up to the world at the same time the first flowers break through the soil and fuzzy buds emerge on trees is an amazing parallel to witness.
4. Golden Hour
More hours of sunlight mean more flexibility when booking a session. Sessions that start or go into the evening are now an option, and a preferred one if you enjoy the magical light that only golden hour can bring.
5. No Bad Light
I’ll take any form of light that comes from the sun over artificial light 100% of the time. Sunny, overcast, stormy skies, shade, I love it all. Even rainy days—we can reschedule, but if your kiddos love stomping in puddles, I’m game!
6. Backyards
If you’re lucky enough to have your own backyard, doing your session partially inside and partially outside means you get a dynamic variety of images and a fuller picture of this chapter of your lives.
7. Being outside is free
It’s hard to find a beautiful indoor space in the winter where you can just hang out without needing to either buy something or pay admission. But in springtime, the options are endless.
8. Just chillin’ vibes
There’s an openness to spontaneous experiences that comes with just hanging outside. More chances for human connection, and canine ones too. Watching your kids’ soccer game, having a picnic at the farmer’s market, running into friends unplanned. The list goes on.
9. Farmers’ markets are back
Long-awaited Farmers Market season begins. My personal fav, the Leslieville Farmers’ Market opens at Greenwood Park on Sunday May 10, which also happens to be Mother’s Day.
10. Pink trees
Cherry blossoms and magnolia trees in bloom are magical, partly because they are pink and partly because they are so temporary.
