I’ll never forget sitting on a bench outside the hospital the day after my daughter was born when a life-changing realization came over me. I looked around during rush hour hustle and I realized every person was born. It’s one of those things you know but have never contemplated. When I became a mother I gained a new appreciation for the fact that every person came from somewhere and someone. Every person was once a baby. The process of giving birth brings to the surface some of the most intense and transformative emotions we may ever feel. I believe there’s beauty in it all: the joy, connection and wonder but also the pain and struggle, because these are all core parts of being human.
